Since our incorporation in the Agrobiotechnology Institute in 2001, the research efforts of our group have been aimed at the study of infectious diseases in livestock species from various perspectives: the mechanisms implicated in the immune response of the host to microorganisms and the genetic and antigenic characterization of the microorganism.
Our research has several applications in the livestock industry: development of vaccines and modulation of immune response; development of diagnostic testing; design of control programs and the eradication of infectious diseases; the determination of mechanisms of tropism, virulence and pathogenicity of microorganisms; the determination of the phylogeny of microorganisms with an epidemiological focus.
The scientific objectives of the group involve significant aspects in the competitive development of the livestock sector, in particular aspects of animal health and the reduction of risk of transfer of intra and inter-specific diseases.
Our team combines biotechnology, genetics, immunology, microbiology and pathology to undertake research that generates transferable results and technology.
